At the heart of this class lies the spirit hall, a unique mechanic exclusive to the spiritborn. This feature allows you to focus on two spirit guardians—selecting one as your primary and the other as a secondary guardian—to enhance your character's abilities.

The primary selections in the Spirit Hall will grant enhancements that correspond to the spirit you select, ensuring that all your skills are tagged with that specific spirit.

On the other hand, the secondary choices in the Spirit Hall offer smaller bonuses, and you can modify both your primary and secondary selections whenever you wish.

• Every fourth direct hit from a jaguar skill triggers additional slashes, inflicting double damage from the four hits.

During the playtest, I had the opportunity to explore four pre-built level-30 characters, each designed around a specific spirit guardian, with around two hours to experiment. I began my journey with the jaguar and eventually delved into all the classes.

One of the standout aspects of the spiritborn class was its remarkable fluidity and agility. Three of the primary skills feature brief dashes reminiscent of the barbarian’s lunging strike, complemented by two movement abilities: Soar and Rushing Claw. Soar functions similarly to the sorcerer's teleportation, applying vulnerability to targets and can trigger Vortex—a skill that draws enemies closer and can knock them down if a barrier is active.

The Spiritborn class introduces a fascinating new dynamic with its unique footwear that replaces the traditional evade ability with a soaring maneuver, allowing for more diverse skills to be equipped.

One standout ability is the Rushing Claw, a powerful jaguar-inspired technique boasting four charges. Remarkably, it can refresh its cooldown by utilizing ferocity stacks, giving it a strategic edge. This skill deals damage comparable to Hammer of the Ancients (HOTA), hitting at about 50% effectiveness, and its power amplifies with each successful strike against enemies.

What truly sets the Spiritborn apart is the stunning visual representation of its skills, showcasing the influence of spirit guardians. For instance, the Rake ability unleashes massive, fiery claw slashes, while Quill Volley launches a barrage of feathers. Payback delivers a formidable shockwave, and Toxic Skin creates a visible poison trail, complete with an animated centipede moving through it.

Each skill carries a distinct identity with captivating animations, enhancing the feeling of being empowered by the spirits integrated into your character build.

Resource management appears robust for a level 30 character; the generators operate swiftly and responsively, while core skills remain efficient, requiring minimal vigor.

Spiritborn Class Mechanics

In Diablo IV, ultimates have had mixed results, but the Spiritborn class shines with its exceptional ultimate abilities. Each ultimate summons a spirit guardian into the fray, dealing substantial damage.

Among these guardians, my personal favorite is the jaguar, also known as the hunter. It makes a dramatic entrance, spinning to unleash impressive fire damage. What’s exciting is that while the hunter is in action, there’s a 15% chance to reset its cooldown with each kill, allowing for up to four consecutive casts.

During my time in Helltide, I found myself resetting the ultimate repeatedly, which added a thrilling element to gameplay. Additionally, the ultimates come with various passive enhancements for your character. One standout ability is Intricacy, which grants you three seconds of uninterrupted casting for your last potency, defensive, or focus skill.

In exploring various build archetypes, I found that the Centipede build stood out significantly, although it was soon apparent that it was benefiting from a few bugs. These glitches allowed the Touch of Death skill to generate relentless minions that inflicted an extraordinary amount of damage.

On the other hand, the Jaguar build was enjoyable once I adjusted the primary spirit passive to Jaguar and grasped the playstyle more effectively.

Next, I delved into the Centipede build, which felt exceptionally satisfying, showcasing a plethora of poison abilities. It reminded me of the Witch Doctor from Diablo 3, but with a unique twist as a melee-oriented fighter rather than a spellcaster.

This class lacks traditional minions or summons similar to the Necromancer or Druid, yet it can conjure swarms that trail behind, relentlessly attacking foes. The Centipede ultimate is particularly thrilling, as it erupts from the ground, unleashing a torrent of poison, reminiscent of having your own personal mini sandworm from Dune.

The Centipede class introduces an intriguing passive ability called Noxious Resonance.

This unique feature allows your critical strikes to unleash bursts of damage based on the amount of poison afflicting the enemy.

On the other hand, the Gorilla playstyle resembles a robust, tank-like version of the Hammer of the Ancients Barbarian.

Its primary skill, Crushing Hand, delivers powerful slams on either side of your character, creating overlapping zones both in front and behind.

This design results in effective area damage as well as solid performance against single targets.

Additionally, Gorilla skills often generate barriers, giving players a sense of invulnerability as long as they continue to engage in combat.

The Spiritborn class in Diablo 4 brings intriguing mechanics, particularly with its gorilla skills.

These skills offer block bonuses and thorns, making them a promising choice for endgame builds.

Although our testing lacked optimal thorns gear, the Bristleback aspect stands out: “when you dodge or block an attack you trigger a [200-350]% thorns attack against the attacker.”

This suggests that a thorns-focused gorilla Spiritborn could be quite formidable.

On the other hand, the eagle build proved to be an enjoyable experience.

Eagle skills, like Quill Volley which disperses a flurry of feathers, showcase impressive range, while Razor Wings functions similarly to a boomerang.

Eagles also excel in applying the vulnerability debuff, arguably more than any other class, as nearly every skill offers a chance to inflict it.

Although eagle skills may lack mobility—except for Soar, akin to the sorcerer's teleportation—they incentivize the use of the evade skill for added benefits.

Players can enhance their eagle's basic attack to trigger automatically upon evasion, applying vulnerability in the process.

Moreover, the eagle spirit hall allows players to accumulate feathers with each skill use, which then unleash damage and vulnerability upon evasion.

Overall, the eagle spec provides significant utility and can serve as a primary focus for builds.

The Spiritborn class in Diablo 4 showcases a fascinating interplay between its various guardian abilities.

For instance, the skill 'Razor Wings' launches a feathered boomerang that returns to the player. When combined with the defensive skill 'Deflection', players can utilize 'Jaguar's Counterattack' to send back incoming 'Razor Wings' effectively.

Additionally, there's an advanced version of 'Razor Wings' called 'Invasive Razor Wings', which allows players to expend three charges to unleash a spiral of three wings simultaneously. With precise timing, these wings can be repeatedly bounced back out.

The ultimate ability of the 'Eagle' stands out as it offers three charges. Although this means each use is slightly less potent, the Spiritborn class includes passive skills that enhance ultimate usage. For example, the 'Intricacy' passive allows for a previously cast potency, defensive, or focus skill to be free for a set duration after casting an ultimate.

This means you could deploy 'Razor Wings', activate the ultimate, and then unleash free 'Razor Wings' for three seconds, utilizing 'Counterattack' to send them flying back out multiple times.
